Argentina closed out its World Cup preparation with a convincing 3-0 win over Iceland at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Alabama.
Valentín Barco opened the scoring in the eighth minute, giving Argentina an early lead before Lionel Messi made his return from muscle fatigue in the second half. Messi entered in the 70th minute and scored from the penalty spot just moments later to double the advantage.
Thiago Almada added the finishing touch in the 86th minute, sealing a comfortable victory for Argentina in front of more than 88,000 fans. The result sends the defending World Cup champions into the tournament with momentum as they prepare to open group play against Algeria.
